Journal Club
A scientific journal club is a regular meeting, where aspiring physicians and researchers can discuss noteworthy studies from peer-reviewed journals. Here at FIMG, we aim to gather interested participants for monthly virtual meet-ups to discuss the latest studies in select topics and fields of medicine. Which fields, you might ask? The topics we review will be decided based on the questionnaires filled out by our participants, so that we know what specialties you are interested in!
Club meetings will last between 30-60 minutes, during which we will discuss the study's methods, results, and how to interpret them. We will also review a paper's strengths and weaknesses; does it set out what its authors intended to do? Does it prove or disprove the hypothesis? What kind of biases could be affecting the outcome, and what could be done to address these biases?
Articles of interest will be emailed 1 week in advanced so that members can pre-read the studies and familiarize themselves with the paper. Take notes, and feel free to ask questions before, during or after sessions! Eventually, members will get a chance to choose and present papers themselves; this will help them improve their public speaking and presentation skills. We hope to see you there!
